WIMPS heads north-west

Recruitment for the first WIMPS Crew outside Belfast was launched this week.

The new Crew is open to all young people from in and around Derry/Londonderry. The launch in the Millennium Forum attracted young people and elected representatives keen to offer their support to the initiative.

The new Crew of young people interested in media, journalism and politics will meet for the first time on Monday evening 25 July from 6 to 8 pm in the Cottage in the Craft Village on Shipquay Street.

If you want to get involved or just want to find out more, simply contact Julie Davis julie@publicachievement.com

WIMPS is looking for young people from all backgrounds who want to make their voices heard.

Planning in Sliabh Beagh
And WIMPS headed south-west this week to meet with a group from Tyrone, Fermanagh and Monaghan. We were trying to work out they could form their own WIMPS crew.

The big challenge is transport. In a rural area where young people already feel isolated, the way they run thier Crew will be very different to how people in urban areas will go about it.

If your bus service is not up to it, how can you get together?

Planning more Crew
By the end of 2012 WIMPS plans to have up to 20 new Crew around Northern Ireland.

We’ve already begun talking to people in East, North, West and South Belfast. But we will be setting up in other places, too. Armagh, Ballymena, Warrenpoint, Lurgan, Portadown are already on the list.

We’ll keep you posted on progress.
