Bus and Trains - fair?
Are you 16 – 23 years and fed up with spending all your money on public transport?
Translink are looking for for young people aged 16 to 23 to help test a new young people’s card which will give you money off the cost of travel on all NI Railways, Ulsterbus and Metro services across Northern Ireland.
Where did the idea for the card come from?
Young people from YouthAction’s Young Community Leadership programme carried out research in 2010. The research found that the cost of travel limited young people’s ability to get out to access jobs. Opportunities for education and social activities were also limited. One of the recommendations made was that a discount card should be available for all young people rather than just for students.
This is your chance to help Translink make this available by testing it before it’s launched.
What do I need to do?
For the first two weeks each person taking part will be asked to fill in a weekly travel diary detailing the journeys you have made during the week and how you made them.
After this, participants are asked to fill in a travel diary for a further 6 weeks whilst using the Translink Smartcard. This offers 30% discount on Metro and Ulsterbus services and 33% discount on NI Railways services within Northern Ireland.
Translink would also like to know your ideas for what to call the new card along with any problems you experience when using it or other ideas on how to improve it when it is launched.
