Campaigning actress not impressed by modern youth

Isn’t it a shame how old people generalise about young people?

Joanna Lumley (64) thinks young people lack respect for education, are ‘slack with moral codes’ and are allowed to bunk off school.  Those, she claims, are just some of their failings.

This rant of generalisations appeared recently in a Radio Times interview and reported on – among other places – on BBC News online.

It was better in her day … she claims. "I would like to see children involved in hearty-sounding pursuits, such as building a camp. Or getting an entire school to go and work in a farm, for a term, all together."

You may remember Ms Lumley from programmes like Absolutely Fabulous where she played a vodka and champagne drinking, chain smoking ‘fashionista’.

Thank goodness young people don’t act like the character she played.

But does she have a point?  Are young people slackers and moral degenerates, or is it the role models they see around them? What do you think?
