Facebook have been told they must make improvements to privacy.

Ireland's Data Commissioner has told the world’s biggest social media network that they have six months to make it easier for users to understand the terms and conditions and how to have more control over their own information.

Facebook’s international HQ is in Ireland. All non-US and Canadian users’ data is managed there.

Facebook is often criticised for its attitude to user info and how it is managed. Its privacy policies have been criticised, too. The site has made a lot of improvements in the last year or so, but it is expected to make more.

Next big thing from Facebook will be a face recognition tag which suggests names for labelling photos. Users will be offered the chance to disable it.

The report makes recommendations on
  • How users can make choices about how their info is shared on the site.
  • More understandable controls on how personal info is used for advertising.
  • How info on how people interact with the site will be controlled.
